Visit the bridges of Paris

Visit the bridges of Paris

Some are better known than others. Here is a small listing of the main bridges of Paris appreciated by tourists and accessible through our different circuits.

The Alma Bridge

oday, the Alma bridge is known in reference to the accident of Diana Spencer known as “Lady Di” having died in August 1997 in the tunnel of the bridge of Alma.

This famous Paris bridge connects the Branly Quay to New York Avenue. Its name was given in tribute to the Battle of Alma during the Crimean War in 1854. Inaugurated in 1856 by Napoleon III and located just 1 km from the Eiffel Tower, the Alma Bridge is to this day a must-see passage for tourists. It contains the replica of the flame of the Statue of liberty.

In the 7th art, the Alma Bridge is present in the film 2012 directed by Roland Emmerich and in Little White Lies by Guillaume Canet.

The Grenelle Bridge

We continue with the replicas of the Statue of liberty by presenting the Grenelle Bridge, founded in 1827. Separating the 15th and 16th district of Paris over 220 meters, it is served by the Mirabeau and Charles Michels subway stations. The bridge is located just 1.5 km from the Eiffel Tower.

Grenelle bridge has undergone different changes during its life. It was built in 1827 but collapsed in 1873. A six-arched cast iron bridge was built to replace the old bridge in 1874. Since 1968, the Grenelle bridge has not been modified except for its new name “Grenelle Bridge – Cadets-of-Saumur”(2016).

We find the Grenelle bridge at the cinema in the movie Frantic directed by Roman Polanski

The Alexandre III Bridge

Certainly one of the most historic bridges in Paris, the Alexandre III bridge, inaugurated in 1900 during the Universal Exhibition, is a must-see monument of the French capital. Its construction was intended to symbolize the Franco-Russian alliance concluded between the Emperor Alexander III and the President of the Republic Sadi Carnot.

Located 1.7 km from the Eiffel Tower, it runs along the axis of the Esplanade des Invalides on 125 meters, separating the Quai d’Orsay in the 7th district and the Grand Palais in the 8th. It serves the Invalides subway station.

The presence of the Alexander III Bridge is found in the Paris Monopoly edition. For the Paris bid at the 2024 Olympics, the town hall installed an athletic track as well as a diving board on the bridge.

On the cinema side, we find it in Midnight in Paris directed by Woody Allen, in Is Paris Burning? by Réné Clément and more recently in Chocolat, a film by Roschdy Zem. Finally, you certainly recognized it in the clip Someone like you by the British singer Adele.
