Romantic things to do in Paris, districts to visit

Romantic things to do in Paris, districts to visit

The Champs-Élysées district

This is the most touristic area of Paris. If you've ever explored Paris, you can't possibly have missed visiting this district. Love… is also beauty. The Champs-Élysées district is home to "the world's most beautiful avenue".

A good place to begin is at the foot of the famous Arc de Triomphe at Place Charles-de-Gaulle, from where you can then continue on towards Place de la Concorde. You'll have the chance to stop and admire the wares on offer at a variety of famous French fashion stores. It could be the opportunity to treat yourself to something special. You can also stop for lunch somewhere if you like, before then heading on up Avenue Montaigne.

The Marais district

A historic district of the City of Light, Le Marais is a charming place to visit together as a couple. It extends across parts of both the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Lying right at the heart of Paris, Le Marais is dotted with magnificent buildings dating from the Renaissance.

It's one of the capital's trendiest districts and receives large numbers of tourists and visitors. Hand-in-hand with your partner, you'll be able to visit the district's many museums and admire its wonderful hotels and historic buildings and monuments.

Le Marais' narrow little streets are simply guaranteed to delight. When you visit, be sure to stop off at Place des Vosges at some point. The arcades and the paths through the gardens are especially romantic. And above all, don't miss the opportunity to visit Square Louis XIII.

The Montmartre district

This romantic district has been made famous by the many movies that have been shot there. The district is also popular for its rich artistic history. Its bright colours, the breathtaking vantage points it offers over Paris, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, the artists quarter: these are all reasons why couples flock to this district in droves.

Don't miss the chance of going for a ride on the carousel at Place des Abbesses on the way to Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge. One place you must go on your trip is the Mur des “Je t'aime” (the Wall of Love). You can see this magical phrase translated into 280 different languages there. Another place you'll be able to visit is the very beautiful Musée de la Vie romantique (Museum of Romantic Life) in the 9th arrondissement and take a walk in the Jehan Rictus square.

The Saint-Germain-Des-Prés district

The romantic Saint-Germain-Des-Prés district is located in the 6th arrondissement in the Paris Left Bank. Time seems to stand still in this historic district neighbouring the Latin Quarter.

Initially, it was artists and art lovers who first began gathering together here. These artists, over time, enabled romanticism to develop and flourish in the district. Simone de Beauvoir, Pablo Picasso and Eugène Delacroix all expressed themselves through their art here.

Don't miss the opportunity to round off your visit with a trip to Place de Furstenberg. Treat yourself to an instant of pure romanticism by visiting the greenhouses at the Luxembourg Gardens near the Odéon Théâtre de l'Europe.

The Ile de la Cité

Crossing the Seine from the Saint-Germain district, discover the magic of the Ile de la Cité, the birthplace of one of the most beautiful love stories in French literature. Follow the footsteps of Esmeralda and Quasimodo as you marvel at the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Continue your stroll through this magnificent district steeped in history and take a romantic break in the Square du Vert-Galant on the banks of the Seine. From the square you will enjoy the view of the Pont des Arts, a must for lovers in Paris.

The Mouffetard district

The Mouffetard district is located in the 5th arrondissement and is one of the most picturesque and romantic places in the capital. Stroll hand-in-hand through its little cobbled streets and treat yourselves to a wonderful moment of leisurely relaxation.

On Rue Mouffetard itself, you'll have the chance to buy souvenirs or enjoy the delicious pleasures of a romantic meal in one of the many restaurants found all along it. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Medici Fountain, a royal fountain built by French queen Marie de' Medici. It's a place where love flows from its very source!

To extend your romantic weekend in Paris, discover the capital at dusk with Tootbus' Paris by Night tour. You will be able to admire the emblematic monuments of the capital and in particular contemplate the Eiffel Tower shining with a thousand lights.
